Legal & Policies

Last updated: 1 June 2026. Fish Meat & More operates in Portsmouth & Southampton, United Kingdom.

Food Safety, Labelling & Allergens

Fish Meat & More and every Seller on the platform comply with UK food law, including the Food Safety Act 1990, the General Food Regulations 2004, the Food Information Regulations 2014 (FIC), the Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2019 (“Natasha’s Law”) and the Fish Labelling (England) Regulations 2013. All food businesses listing on the platform must be registered with their local authority Environmental Health team at least 28 days before trading.

Cold chain & transport

  • Chilled fish, meat and poultry are transported at 0–5°C and frozen goods at ≤ −18°C.
  • Driver vehicle & temperature checks are logged before every shift and retained for at least 12 months.
  • On delivery, refrigerate immediately and use within the use-by date shown on the label. Cooked-from-frozen products must be cooked within 24 hours of defrosting.
  • If the product temperature on arrival appears unsafe, refuse the delivery and contact us within 1 hour for a full refund or replacement.

Fish labelling (mandatory information)

  • Commercial designation and scientific (Latin) name of the species.
  • Production method: “caught”, “caught in freshwater” or “farmed”.
  • Catch area (FAO sub-zone) for wild fish, or country of farming for farmed fish.
  • Fishing gear category for wild capture (e.g. seines, trawls, gillnets, hooks & lines, dredges, pots/traps).
  • Whether the product has been previously frozen and defrosted.

Meat labelling (mandatory information)

  • Country of rearing and country of slaughter for fresh, chilled and frozen beef, pork, poultry, sheep and goat meat.
  • Cut, weight (in grams) and price per kg comparison.
  • Use-by date (never “best before” on raw fresh meat).
  • Storage instructions and minimum cooking guidance.
  • Halal / Kosher / organic / Red Tractor / RSPCA Assured certifications, where claimed, are evidenced by supplier paperwork on file.

Allergens — the 14 regulated allergens

Every product listing shows ingredients with the 14 regulated allergens emphasised: celery, cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, soya, sulphur dioxide & sulphites. Pre-packed for direct sale (PPDS) items meet Natasha’s Law: full ingredients are visible on the pack and on the listing. If you have an allergy, please double-check the label on receipt and contact Customer Service before consuming if anything is unclear.

Raw products & vulnerable groups

Many products are sold raw. Cook to a safe internal temperature — poultry ≥ 75°C, minced meat & burgers ≥ 70°C, whole cuts of beef and lamb to your preferred doneness, fish until opaque and flaking. Do not consume raw or undercooked fish, shellfish, eggs or meat if you are pregnant, elderly, immunocompromised or under 5.

Traceability & sustainable sourcing

  • Supplier invoices and traceability records are kept for at least 4 years.
  • We do not list species classified as IUU (Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated) or appearing on the IUCN Red List as Endangered or Critically Endangered for human consumption.
  • Sustainability claims (MSC, ASC, Responsible Fishing Scheme, Red Tractor) are only used where the supplier holds a current certificate, available on request.

Recalls & incidents

If a product is subject to a Food Standards Agency (FSA) recall or withdrawal, we will contact affected customers using the email or phone number on the order and publish a notice on the homepage. Suspected food-borne illness should be reported to us and to your GP / NHS 111 immediately; we cooperate fully with EHO investigations.

Hygiene rating

Our operating premises display a Food Hygiene Rating issued by the local authority. The current rating is published in the site footer once confirmed by the council.
